Residents of Denver all recognize Lakewood as a wonderful place to live, conduct business and raise a family, but danger can lurk anywhere and anytime as long as people drink and drive.
It has long been the objective of This Must Stop to continuously remind the community of this fact and create as many community awareness programs we can in an attempt to make a difference.
Few first responders to crash scenes see more carnage than tow truck drivers and recently, This Must Stop did a ride-along with Lakewood’s A Quick Response Towing:

Today, we report on that ride-along with hopes it will keep you informed about this potential danger that lurks about our community.
Certainly, You’re Safe In Your Home, Right?
Wrong! Dave Fay from A Quick Response Towing is an affable guy and let us do the ride-along with him last Saturday night.
The first call we received was an automobile that had jumped the curb and drove into a house. As we pulled up, we saw the black 2017 Honda Accord half buried within the rubble of the house where the car had penetrated the picture windows in the front yard, entered the dining room and completely crushed the dining room table and chairs.
“We had just gotten up from the table from an early dinner. We were lucky!”
Seated outside in the back of the patrol car was the driver. He had failed his roadside sobriety test and subsequently blown a 0.1 on the breathalyzer making him legally drunk.
He too was lucky because he could have been facing vehicular homicide charges if he had struck the house just ten minutes earlier. Dave winched the car out of the house and after we dropped it off and the police yard, we were off to our next adventure.
Two Fatalities In DUI Crash
The victims at the next scene were not as lucky. The drunken driver had blown through a red light and broadsided an unsuspecting vehicle killing the two occupants.
When he wakes up in the hospital detention ward, he will be charged. Pursuant to Colorado Revised Statute 18-1-306(1)(a), Vehicular Homicide occurs when a person is killed due to a DUI accident or as the cause of another’s reckless driving.
Vehicular Homicide is a felony in Colorado that carries a possible prison sentence of up to 24 years. The clean-up at this scene took about an hour. I spent some of the time waiting on my laptop reviewing Dave Fay’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/A-Quick-Response-Towing-LLC-2351600358415815/
Three For Three
To say that drunk driving in Lakewood is prevalent is somewhat of an understatement.
As the clock approached midnight and we were almost ready to pack it in for our shift, sure enough, another call came in from, once again, another drunk driver wreck that closed down the highway for a time.
This accident had caused extreme damage to two vehicles but fortunately, everybody walked away from this one. The drunk driver did so however in handcuffs and walked directly into the back seat of a patrol car to be taken off to jail.
Think Twice Before You Drink And Drive
Let these instances give you cause for thought before you try to have a drink and hit the road. It’s not worth it and it’s also illegal!
